Otto Binder's résumé reads like a Who's Who of American Folk Heroes. During his 30-year comics career, the veteran science fiction writer penned the comic book adventures of Superman, Doc Savage, the Shadow, Captain America, Blackhawk and most notably Captain Marvel and his supporting cast, the majority of whose Golden Age exploits sprang from Binder's fertile imagination.
Born in 1919, James Mooney began his long career in comics at age 21 as an artist for Ace Publishing, where he illustrated such features as Lash Lightning and Magna. By the late 1940s, Mooney was firmly in place as one of DC Comics' most productive penciller/inkers, drawing Batman stories in BATMAN and DETECTIVE COMICS, Robin in STAR SPANGLED COMICS, and Tommy Tomorrow in ACTION COMICS. In the 1960s, Mooney concentrated his efforts on ACTION COMICS' Supergirl the feature for which he is best known to this day. In 1991 he returned to DC as the artist of THE ADVENTURES OF SUPERBOY. Mooney passed away on March 30, 2008.
