The F-35 Lightning II is an ambitious aircraft that aims to meet the needs of different U.S. service arms via three variants: the F-35A for the Air Force, the F-35B for the Marines, and the F-35C for the Navy. Perhaps the most adventurous of the three is the F-35B, which is intended to take the place of the AV-8B Harrier II: the lift fan positioned between the engine and the cockpit and a 3 bearing swivel module system endow the F-35B with short takeoff and vertical landing (STOVL) capability in addition to its supersonic airspeed, extreme low observability and exceptional situational awareness.
